Today, the City of Central Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly Investor Luncheon at Kristenwood, featuring U.S. Congressman Garret Graves as the guest speaker. Congressman Graves provided a Washington update and engaged in a question and answer session with attendees.

As summer break comes to an end, we warmly welcome all students back to school for the new academic year. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer, filled with fun and relaxation. As you embark on this new school year, approach it with enthusiasm and determination. Set goals, work hard, and support each other in your academic pursuits. Remember, each new school year is a fresh start, an opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve great things. Make the most of this school year by being engaged, curious, and proactive learners. Embrace challenges, seek knowledge, and strive for excellence in everything you do. Welcome back, students! Make this year a memorable and successful one. This morning, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) held a Back-to-School Pep Rally for Safety at Central High School to remind drivers of school bus safety as students return to school this week in the City of Central
.
Lt. Col. Frank Besson with Louisiana State Police provided several safety tips for a safe school year:
- Be attentive to loading/unloading zones
- Adhere to speed limits in school zones
- Exercise caution and watch for students in crossing zones
- Remember that Louisiana Law prohibits the use of cell phones while in a school zone
- Remain vigilant at all times
- Ensure that everyone is properly buckled
Other notable speakers included LHSC Executive Director Lisa Freeman, CCSS Superintendent Dr. Jason Fountain, LA DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue, and LA Dept. of Education Safe and Healthy Schools Director Michael Comeaux.

Milling of the roadway is scheduled to commence next week, marking an earlier timeline adjustment from September to August.
