Mayor Evans was thrilled to welcome the Western Welding Academy to Central High School today. With a background in HVAC and construction, the Mayor is a strong advocate for the trades. Central High, particularly its welding program, prepares students to become career-ready welders who can enter the workforce immediately upon graduation. We extend our gratitude to the school system for offering a curriculum with multiple paths to success, and we appreciate the Western Welding Academy for highlighting our program as part of their Blue Collar tour.

The Wall That Heals Life Tabernacle Church 9323 Hooper Road Central, LA 70818 March 20-23, 2025 The Wall That Heals exhibit features a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The replica is 375 feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point. Visitors experience The Wall rising above them as they walk towards the apex, a key feature of the design of The Wall in D.C. Like the original Memorial, The Wall That Heals is erected in a chevron-shape and visitors can do name rubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall. The replica is constructed of Avonite, a synthetic granite, and its 140 numbered panels are supported by an aluminum frame. Machine engraving of the more than 58,000 names along with modern LED lighting provide readability of The Wall day and night. As on The Wall, the names on The Wall That Heals are listed by day of casualty. Beginning at the center/apex, the names start on the East Wall (right-hand side) working their way out to the end of that wing, picking up again at the far end of the West Wall (left-hand side) and working their way back in to the center/apex, joining the beginning and end of the conflict at the center.

Hooper Road is now open!

Please avoid Hooper Road between Joor Road and Sullivan Road due to major wreck. The roadway will be shut down for several hours due to traffic investigation being conducted by Central Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Fatality team and Crime Scene Division.

Mayor Evans and Chief Corcoran participated in the Cub Scout Pack 125 Pinewood Derby this morning. They love taking part in activities that support the community and our future leaders.

The 30th season of The Wall That Heals will begin on March 6, 2025, in Sebring, Florida and visit 31 communities during the year. Baton Rouge, Louisiana is their 3rd stop on the nationwide tour! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE WALL THAT HEALS The Wall That Heals will be visiting Life Tabernacle Church in Central, Louisiana, from Thursday, March 20 to Sunday, March 23, 2025. This traveling exhibition is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and honors the service and sacrifice of our veterans. Event Details: - Location: Revolution Square at Life Tabernacle Church 9323 Hooper Road, Central, LA 70818 - Dates: Thursday, March 20 - Sunday, March 23, 2025 Please add your name to the signup page and specify in what capacity you would like to donate your time. Also specify what time and day you are available. There are 4 hour shifts available in each area. You may sign up for two consecutive 4 hour shifts if you would like to do so. You will be contacted. VOLUNTEER TRAINING: - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - will be on Wednesday, March 19th at 6 p.m. VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS: Assist Visitors at The Wall: Greet and assist visitors with finding names, viewing photos, name rubbings. Listen and provide support when needed. •Mobile Education Center Volunteer: Talk about artifacts, In Memory Honorees and Hometown Heroes. •Visitor Tent: Seated Position: in finding names on website or name directory. Monitor trifold inventory. Answer Visitor questions to best of ability. •Direct Visitors (Floater): Greet and assist visitors with information. Direct to The Wall, Trailer, Visitor Tent.
